Guides

SMS

In this area you can set up the SMS Service. When configured, Notificare will be able to send text messages. Here you will be able to purchase mobile numbers, provide legal information and necessary documentation and configure a localizable opt-in message and opt-in or opt-out landing pages. Please note that this is a pay-as-you-go service, and you will need to buy SMS credits before you can start sending messages.

Under the Settings menu, you should start by clicking in Services:

menu

You should then click in the Configure button from the following box:

box

This service is not enabled by default, before you can start you will need to activate it. If you own the app, where you are trying to activate this service, and will see a section as follows:

activate

You should click in the Activate button to create the underlying messaging account needed for this service to work.

On the other hand, if your account has a custom billing agreement, you will need to request this activation from our team:

request activation

If instead, you don't own the app, you will need to wait for the owner to activate it, before you can proceed:

wait for activation

Whenever this messaging account is activated, you will see the following section:

sms service

In this section you will find the Service Identifier, which you cannot change and might be requested by our team whenever you ask support for this service. Additionally, you can create an Alphanumeric Sender. Please note that the Alphanumeric Sender allows you to hide the mobile numbers you lease and use a text instead as the sender identifier when sending text messages to supported countries. Adding one, will make it impossible for us to handle incoming messages, and you should only add one if you are certain that you will not need two-way SMS messages.

This name may be up to 11 characters. Valid characters are A-Z, a-z, 0-9, space, hyphen -, plus +, underscore _ and ampersand &. This value cannot contain only numbers.

Finally, if you do provide changes to this Alphanumeric Sender, hit the Save button to store your changes:

Opt-in & Opt-out Settings

In this area you can also access your opt-in and opt-out settings page. This is where you'll configure your opt-in text message and landing pages.

Go ahead and click the following section:

opt in opt out settings

In this area, you will find the following options:

Auto Opt-In

In this section, you may define if you want to enable auto opt-in:

auto opt in section

When this option is enabled, we will automatically subscribe recipients (if they don't exist yet) that send a text (with any of the following commands: START, UNSTOP or YES) to any of the numbers you lease with us. Users can also stop receiving messages by replying with any of the following commands: STOP, CANCEL, END, QUIT, STOPALL or UNSUBSCRIBE. After invoking an opt-out command, users will only start receiving messages again, if they reply using one of the auto opt-in commands.

Custom Opt-In Commands

In this section, you can create custom opt-in commands. These commands will allow users to opt-in by texting any of your provisioned 10DLC, Short Codes or Tool-Free numbers. These also support confirmation commands allowing you to provide double opt-in for phone number subscriptions.

custom opt in commands section

In this area you will find all the custom opt-in commands you create:

custom opt in commands list

You can create a command by clicking in the following button, in the top right corner:

custom opt in commands button

To create a new command, you will need to provide at least an opt-in command:

custom opt in commands complete modal

Optionally, you can define two different messages, one for new subscriptions and another for existing subscriptions (for those users that send the same command more than once).

You can also define a language, region, tags or user data fields, we should use, when subscribing a new phone number. All these properties will be ignored for users that are already subscribed, except for tags, which we will add if not assigned to the existing phone number.

Additionally, a custom opt-in command can also require confirmation. This will allow you to provide a double opt-in feature for you custom opt-in commands. When toggled ON, you will need to provide one or more confirmation commands (comma separated) and a confirmation message. Please note that you cannot use any of the Auto Opt-In commands.

As you create custom opt-in commands, you can also search them in the following area:

custom opt in commands search

Finally, you can always update a custom opt-in command by clicking in each row of the list:

custom opt in commands row

Additionally, you can also delete custom opt-in commands by clicking in the button in the top right corner.

Subscriptions

In this area, you will be able to configure how users opt-in and opt-out when they subscribe via our subscription forms or when you create new SMS numbers (that require verification) via our dashboard or API.

subscriptions section

This will take you to a new page, where you will find two sections, one for SMS:

subscription sms section

And another for RCS:

subscription rcs section

You will to at least configure the SMS opt-in and opt-out settings. Additionally, if you've also configured your app to use RCS, you will need to also configure those opt-in and opt-out settings.

SMS

For SMS, you should start by adding the text for your opt-in text message:

subscription sms subscribe

In this text, you should include the validate link placeholder ({{validateLink}}) that will allow your users to confirm their opt-in.

Additionally, you should also provide four different landing pages. Ideally, these must be pages in your own website. We will need a page where we will redirect users after a successful opt-in confirmation:

subscription sms subscribe success

And a page where we will redirect users when the opt-in confirmation fails for any reason:

subscription sms subscribe error

Finally, we will also need landing pages for the opt-out confirmation. When you include an unsubscribe link ({{unsub}}), these will be the pages users land when they click that link. You should then provide a URL for a successful opt-out:

subscription sms unsubscribe success

And one when an opt-out fails for any reason:

subscription sms unsubscribe error

RCS

For RCS, you will also need to provide a text for your opt-in text message:

subscription rcs subscribe

This message should contain the Opt-in Suggestion Button which will be presented as a means for users to confirm their subscription.

Obviously, you will also need to provide the text for the Opt-in Suggestion Button, which should match the one mentioned in the previous field:

subscription rcs suggestion

Additionally, you will also need to provide a text for the opt-in confirmation message, which will be sent every time they confirm their subscription:

subscription rcs opt in

Finally, you will also need to provide a text for the opt-out confirmation message, which will be sent every time they stop their subscription:

subscription rcs opt out

If you operate in different countries and communicate with your clients in different languages, you can also localize these settings by toggling the following option:

localize switch

You should then provide the exact same data for each language you add.

SMS Numbers

In this area you can also access your SMS Numbers page. This is where you'll lease the mobile numbers (Long Codes, Toll-Free and Short Codes) we'll use to send text messages.

Adding more than one number might be interesting if you are looking to send high volumes of messages (although not recommended in US & Canada). Each Long Code (aka 10DLC) is bound to a limit of 10 messages per second in all countries, except when sending to US & Canada where that limit is 1 per second. Furthermore, a new A2P 10DLC system introduced by US carriers in 2021 made these obsolete by enforcing MPS limits at a message level, rather than at the level of individual phone numbers.

To achieve higher throughput, in US and Canada, you can choose to lease a Toll-Free number or a Short Code.

Toll-Free numbers are the phone numbers choice for text messaging in the US. They are 10-digit phone numbers (think 800 numbers like 877-234-5618). With Toll-Free numbers you can send up to 3 messages per second. Higher send rates can be requested for an additional fee.

Short Codes are a 5 or 6-digit numbers that can send and receive SMS to and from mobile phones. With a Short Code you can send up to 100 messages per second. Higher send rates can be requested for an additional fee.

However, Short Codes are much more expensive than Long Codes or Toll-Free numbers, and Notificare only leases them on a 1-year contract. Notificare also charges a one-time fee for the setup process which can take between 8 and 12 weeks. To request these Short Codes or find more information and pricing, please contact us.

If you are ready to start leasing Long Codes, go ahead and click the following section:

sms numbers

This will take you to a new page, where you will see the mobile numbers that you've already provisioned:

sms numbers list

If you are not the owner of this application you can only see this list, but you will not be able to add or remove any numbers. If instead you own the application, you will be able to provision numbers expanding the Options menu:

options menu sms numbers

To provision a Long Code, click in New Long Code, that will open a window as follows:

provision numbers window

In this window, you should first select the country where you want to lease numbers from:

provision numbers none

In most countries, you will first need to provide us an address before you can lease any Long Codes. Additionally, in a few countries, you will also be required to provide documentation, which should be added via regulatory bundles. When that's the case, you need to provide these first, before you can lease a number too:

provision numbers any

Depending on your country selection, you will then need to select one or more numbers, the address and the regulatory bundle you want to use (if applicable).

Please note that in order to send messages to US consumers using a Long Code, you will need to register a US A2P 10DLC Campaign. If this is your goal, after leasing a Long Code, you should immediately submit a request for a US A2P 10DLC Campaign.

If instead you want to provision a Toll-Free number, click in New Toll-Free Number, that will open a window as follows:

provision toll free numbers window

After selecting the country you want, you should also select the toll-free numbers you want to lease. Additionally, for this type of SMS numbers, you will also need to provide information about your business and messaging use case. Please read these guides before leasing a toll-free number.

Finally, if you want to request a Short Code, click in New Short Code, that will open a window as follows:

provision short code window

We strongly advise you to read these guides before leasing a short code.

Please note that if you have a custom billing agreement with us, this process is done by our team instead, and it may take up to 24 hours for us to process your request. Long Codes and Toll-Free numbers have a monthly cost and can be cancelled whenever you want. To do that simply click the button in the top right corner of each row in your list:

sms number row

On the other hand, Short Codes are billed yearly and can only be cancelled by contacting our support team.

SMS Addresses

An address is mandatory to lease a phone number in most countries. You will be requested to provide one whenever you provision a mobile number. In this section you should provide one or more addresses. Depending on the country regulations, you might be required to have a local address.

To start adding addresses, go ahead and click the following section:

sms addresses

This will take you to a new page, where you'll find all the addresses added to your SMS service:

sms addresses list

New addresses can be added by clicking the following button:

new address button

This will open the following window:

new address window

Where you should provide all the required information to create a new address.

You can also edit addresses whenever you see fit. You do that by clicking in the address you want to edit:

address row

You can also remove an address whenever you want, by clicking in the button in top right corner.

Regulatory Bundles

For some countries, you will also need to provide additional information in order to lease a phone number. This takes the form of a regulatory bundle, combining some business information and documentation, subject to the local regulator's verification.

If a number you are trying to lease requires a regulatory bundle, go ahead and click the following section:

regulatory bundles

This will take you to a new page, where you find all the regulatory bundles you created:

bundles list

Bundles can be in different states. Before you submit one it will be in the Draft state. After submitting for approval, it will change to Pending. When the regulator starts verifying it, it will change to In Review. And once the regulator reviews your bundle it can change to Rejected or Approved.

You can also edit bundles, businesses or documents by clicking in each of them:

bundle row

You can also delete them by clicking in the button in the top right corner.

Before you start creating a bundle, you should first see what exactly that bundle needs to contain. You do this by expanding the Options menu and click in New Bundle:

bundles options

Which will open a new window, where you should search and select a country to see the requirements of the bundle you need:

new bundle window

If the country you've selected does not require any document, you don't need a regulatory bundle and providing an address should be enough. However, if the country you've selected requires documentation, you'll need to create a business profile and documents, before you can create your bundle.

Whenever you are ready to create a bundle (you've created a business profile and uploaded all the documents needed), you should be ready to create a bundle and submit it for approval:

update bundle window

Once submitted, this process might take up to 72 hours to be completed.

US A2P 10DLC Campaign

Use this area to manage your US A2P 10 DLC campaigns. These campaigns are required if you want to reach US consumers using a long code. In this area, you will find a list of all campaigns created:

us a2p 10dlc campaigns list

Additionally, if you are the owner of the application, you can also request a campaign registration by clicking the following button:

new campaign button

Which will open the following window:

us a2p 10dlc campaign window

Before you submit a request for a campaign, we strongly advise you read these guides.

Rich Communication Services (RCS)

In this area you can manage your RCS Agent, and it is also where you invite test devices and send test messages (while your Agent is not launched). Our support team will review your request before enabling this feature. Therefore, before activation, if you are not the owner of the app, this area will only display the following message:

rcs disabled not owner

And you should contact the app owner in order for them to request activation. If you are the app owner, then you can submit a request to register an agent from the following section:

rcs register agent section

And clicking the Register Agent will open the following window:

rcs register agent window

You will need to provide basic information about your brand and how you would like to configure your agent. Once submitted our team will analyze your request and come back to you with any request for clarification or a confirmation of the registration.

Once enabled, in this area you will find your agent details and a list of carriers where RCS is available.

rcs register agent window

Please note that we use Google's RCS Business Messaging (RBM) platform to provide your app with RCS capabilities.

Additionally, while your agent is not launched, you can use the Options menu to check device's capabilities, invite new test devices and send test messages:

rcs options menu unlaunched

Geo-permissions

By default, your SMS service will accept opt-ins and send messages to all countries we support. But sometimes, it is wise to block all countries where you don't operate to prevent abuse. This is even more relevant, when you use one of our subscribe forms, which allow users to opt-in from a webpage.

If you want to block certain countries, go ahead and click the following section:

geo permissions

Where you find a list with all the countries we support, and where you can toggle ON and OFF each one of them individually:

geo permissions list

To store your changes, hit the Save button:

save button

After that, phone numbers from the countries that you've toggled OFF, will no longer be created nor will receive text messages.

Subscribe Forms

For your convenience, we provide you with free snippets of code that you can add to your website and easily collect phone numbers. Registration via these forms will use the Opt-in and Opt-out Settings, so it's important you define those before using these forms.

You have different types of forms at your disposal:

forms tabs

For each type, you will be able to customize the form as you see fit, in the following section:

forms customize

As you customize your form, you can see your changes in the following section:

forms preview

When you satisfied with the form you want to use, you can copy the code in the following area and paste it in your website:

forms snippet

You can still customize it further in your website, after all, this code can be edited and styled using CSS.

Service Messages

To help you navigate a highly regulated industry like SMS, in this area, we will display the most important notices, warnings and relevant changes that may or may not require you to take action. We strongly advise you to keep an eye out for new service messages. Although, we might send some of these messages via email, push or SMS, it's always a good idea to stay informed about all these changes.

In this section you will simply find a list of the most recent messages:
